Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a small country located in the Indian Ocean.  It is south east of India.  It has a very large population of Buddhists (over 70%).  It is a very poor country. Recently their 30 year civil war ended.  There are many orphans and handicapped people as a result of the war.

We spent time in Colombo (the Capital) and Vavuniya (in the northern part).  Voice of the Martyrs has a GREAT interactive map.  If you can find Sri Lanka and click on it, they will take you to a page that will tell you more about this  nation.

Pastor Udi's Farm

Our friend, Pastor Udi, has a big farm in Sri Lanka that we visited.  It was cool.

The farm was as big as our property at home, 4 acres.  They have goats, a rice field, a chicken house, and an orphanage. There are coconut trees and one of the kids in the orphanage got me a coconut from a tree.

In Sri Lanka there are many snakes.  According to the Guiness Book of World Records 2000, Sri Lanka is where the most deaths from poisonous snakes bites occur.

I had a lot of fun in Sri Lanka at Pastor Udi's farm, but my favorite thing was playing with the kids.
